Background
Studied at Molde University College and NTNU for a master's degree in systems development. Complex computer systems is probably what its called technically, at NTNU. After that i started working in a company called Merit in 2005 where i was a system developer for 15 years until I found out that it might be a good idea to try something new. I had a friend who asked if I would not come and have a chat with Maritech. It was tempting because it sounds like a nice place to work with good challenges. So then I started to work at Maritech in March 2021. It was exciting because there were new technologies and new development language for me that I had not worked with before but it was quick to learn. I had knowledgeable people around me which was nice and I got my own project from day 1 that I actually got to dig into and spend time on, such as the cloud solution called CMS.
What work is like at Maritech
I now have a somewhat divided role. I'm leading a project called TMS cloud which is sort of a investment area, where we will strengthen our logistics investments. It's not just development but also project management and research and it's very exciting. I have a good team there, very good people, including a former colleague who is a temporary staff member. Noe it's just to continue further development of the CMS, but it all goes a bit hand in hand.
Motivation
In terms of work, it's that you can see there is great interest in the project going well. You are motivated by the fact that the project is going well. The motivation otherwise lies in the colleagues, that it's a nice place to be.
It's cool that I'm building on a platform that used to be called BGS which will now be Maritech Cloud and that it has become as good as it has. But it was good even before I started. It's a good foundation to build on and it makes the development work out better than if I had started from scratch.
Best things about working at Maritech
It's the people. It's a nice environment with people who are good at their stuff and you always have someone to ask. People are also eager to help. We are also not too big of an organization, so you do have some influence. You are not just a tiny piece in a gigantic machinery and I like that. You see that you really make a difference.
Things you've learned while working at Maritech
For me, there are new languages and frameworks within development. I have also gained insight into the transport industry, which is the TMS product. There is a lot of new knowledge there that we acquire.
We have the slogan Help Each Other. I fell like I live by that both at work and generally in life. I make an effort, especially to help colleagues when they need help.
