A love for logistics
I've worked with logistics all my life. It all started with a couple of years of working with logistics and then I figured out that it was a good idea to start at Molde University College. I was there for a couple of years and then I got a job at the model hall terminal. At this time there was so much unemployment so you got a job and you took it. Then I have worked with logistics in NorCargo and Bring thermo system with thermology for many years and after that I worked at Sties thermal transport in Oslo for a few years where I was a key account manager for some large fishing customers. Then my journey went to Germany where I stayed there for three years. In Germany did not work, but I was a housewife. I only spoke German and went to German school, and made sure that the family thrived. At that time i went to an institution at a German school for three months where we had everything from all sorts of possible PowerPoint presentations, excel courses, we just applied for what we wanted. Then I went back to Molde and started in NorCargo. In NorCargo my responsibility was the foreign department in Molde. We got our last child after that and then I started in National Oil Well in the oil and offshore industry. Alongside doing my job I also completed a master's degree in logistics. Work in National Oil Well involved being responsible for shipping cranes to steering cargo traffic and air freight. When I left , I was responsible for complete project submissions. That involved sending whole cranes from Hjelset to the whole world, and from China to the whole world.
I eventually quit that job and worked in Krisitansand for a month before I resigned and started in Veøy where I worked with special transport for 4 years before my journey with Maritech began in October 2021.
A position perfect for Heidi
They had advertised a regional logistics chief type position. At least it was advertised as a position that looked very exciting. So I applied and then I got called in for an interview. Maritech told me that they ended up not hiring people in that position because it was a bit so wide and diffuse, so then they created a new position for me called Solutions Architect Logistics. What they told me, was that someone with my expertise should join Maritech so they decided to create a job around that. The thing that was very exciting is that I have worked from the customer side, been an exporter. I have also been an importer via National Oil Well and I have a lot of experience in it with ERP system and transport. Plus I've worked with fishing transport and regular transport before. I work with a lot of different logistics systems, and to bring that expertise into Maritech with Timpex and trading, it makes me really want to work in Maritech because there is so much incredible value we can add to the customers, in that we can improve the everyday life of our customers through integrations. There are still an incredible number of companies who still work manually.
No two days alike
It's very exciting. Lots of nice, wise, and funny colleagues. There is a large professional environment, and a lot of talented people and I think that is so cool.
A normal workday at Maritech is also hectic and diverse. What I am trying to do for example is to get carriers to be more integrated together and generally simplify everyday life for our customers and carriers. One must also understand the connection between the logistics systems, TMS, Connect, Confirm and Trading, and that's what I work with the most. I also do support work once a week because I learn a lot from it. What I am trying to achieve is a good mix of researching and finding out things for myself, dialogue with colleagues and customers to learn more and then help customers.
A group effort
For me its all about If we can solve a problem for a customer. Get a customer on board and get a project in place that allows us to simplify the everyday life for the customer.
Positive attitude is the most important thing. That everything is possible. I'm the kind of person that talks to everyone and if you talk to people and get to know people, you can solve a problem. I'm very social and I think it is important to contribute to making it a cozy arena at work, whether it's team building or a trip with a colleague. I think that is very important. But the fact that we are different is also very good. Whether you are sitting down and looking at a computer screen or you are out selling, everyone contributes.
Education & knowledge
The work is diverse, and it’s very interesting and educational to learn all the systems and that you can see the knowledge for our customers in that we teach them more to become more efficient and profitable. I also really enjoy capturing customers.
Constantly changing
Coming from the logistics industry to the IT industry, you do learn quite a lot. I learn new things all the time, and the systems are new for me. Internally in maritech, there are many systems. Generally, there is a lot of learning every single day.
A quote I live by is: yo don't get to the mountains on a flat road - by Ivar Aasen. This means that you need to have some resistance along the way. If you have resistance during your life, it goes well anyway. You have to work a little to get to a mountain top.
