“An important value Maritech emphasizes, is the value of helping others. It’s one big team of experts who are excited to collaborate and work with others to create the best possible solutions. It’s a value I have encompassed in the past and one I most certainly do now. I feel it suits me well”
Yngvild Neset is a Data Analyst based out of Maritech headquarters in Molde. Knowing nothing about the seafood industry before beginning, she quickly changed that around – now she can’t wait to test out new technologies and learn from the experts!

A match made in Molde
It wasn’t a necessarily straight path to Maritech, but one that fit like a match made in heaven (or in this case, Molde)! Data Analyst, Yngvild Neset attended NTNU in Trondheim, Norway where she studied physics and math. Following promising university studies, Neset found herself working as a consultant for Capgemini in the Insights & Data department for two years before moving on again. After five years working as a team member and eventually team leader for Gjensidige, an insurance company, the Coronavirus pandemic had begun and Neset began to think ‘maybe it’s time to return to the mountains.’ She began looking for a job in Ålesund (her hometown), but didn't find anything there, but shortly after, Neset found the job here in Maritech.
“I knew nothing about Molde or Maritech, but I thought ‘what is the worst that can happen? I can move on if I don’t like it.’ So then I ended up here. I didn’t do much research on Maritech before I applied, just something about the seafood industry,” explains Neset.
“I know the field, so I just have to use it in a new area,” Neset thought to herself as the journey here at Maritech began to unfold. It didn’t take long for her to realize that there are lot’s of great people to learn from!
A day of data science
The workday is quite varied for Neset.
“I work with several people in all departments of the organization, which makes my job exciting, because I am in a role that allows me to explore lots of different areas. So, I am fortunate enough to work with lots of individuals, all with extensive knowledge within their fields, and what exactly it is they do,” Neset explains.
A typical day of data science includes meetings, group discussions, programming and contact with customers. She continues, “a combination of all of these things is what my ‘typical’ day looks like, but it feels like it is always changing, because as you go, you are given more responsibility when delivering tasks.’
Just do it
“There are so many aspects of the job that keeps me feeling motivated. But ultimately the main goal of our organization is to create good things, help our customers and create good solutions for them. We are solving problems and creating solutions, it’s a super fun environment. Some issues are more complex and require a but more concentration, but it’s very rewarding when you can make it happen. That’s what keeps me motivated. A value I live by is: Just do it. If there's something you want to do, just do it. Make it happen. Do not let yourself be stopped by being afraid of making mistakes.”
A safe place to explore
When Neset thinks about some of her favourite aspects of working here at Maritech, everything is surround by one common theme: safety. The safety to explore new solutions, to try and fail and try again.
“I remember once instance where I was creating a computer model for a customer, which ultimately gave them a place to analyze and gain more insights into their own organization. Once I completed it, I had felt so rewarded. I knew I had made people’s job easier for them,” smiles Neset as she continues, “it’s just such a nice culture here at Maritech. It’s very fun, informal and accompanied by a feeling of accomplishment.”
What Maritech has taught me
“I have learned many things since coming to Maritech, but most notably, the seafood industry and the different types of technologies the industry has access to. Maritech is very ahead of other organizations when it comes to technology, which has been great because I feel like I always have the opportunity to get acquainted with new technologies and figure out how they work,” Neset explains. “This is a smaller company, so there is much less bureaucracy, we just like to have fun, test out new ideas, and put them to use,” she smiles.
“Another important value Maritech emphasizes, is the value of helping others. It’s one big team of experts who are excited to collaborate and work with others to create the best possible solutions. It’s a value I have encompassed in the past and one I most certainly do now. I feel it suits me well,” finished Neset.
